In Touch Ministries

In Touch Ministries is an evangelical organization led by Dr. Charles F. Stanley) who served two terms as President of the Southern Baptist Convention. Stanley is a close ally of the President George H.W. Bush and serves as pastor of the 15,000 member First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. In Touch Ministries, founded in 1974, broadcasts Stanley’s sermons in 14 languages to nearly every country in the world. In 2003, Stanley supported the invasion of Iraq and attempted to offer a biblical justification for it, while viewing Iraq as a potential arena in which to convert Muslims to Christianity. The organization also articulated a form of “Christian Nationalism” before the invasion, distributing a pamphlet titled “A Christian’s Duty” that contained a list of prayers for United States troops in Iraq and the Bush administration, complete with red, white, and blue coloring. It has also been distributed to soldiers serving in Iraq.
