Competitive Enterprise Institute

The Competitive Enterprise Institute, is a Washington-based think-tank that has received extensive corporate funding from Exxon-Mobil

The Institute is one of the key organizations attempting to undermine research on global warming. The Competitive Enterprise Institute has a variety of projects seeking the elimination of regulations on free-markets, advocating property rights as a means of protecting the environment, opposing increased fuel economy, and other such pro-business positions. It has campaigned against attempts to regulate pesticides arguing that there are no human health effects, has argued for the elimination of the Superfund program, and supports privatizing the Endangered Species Act with species being protected once there was significant market “demand”for their protection. It has also received funding from the American Petroleum Institute, Cigna Corporation, Dow Chemical, General Motors, and IBM.
