The Coalition on Urban Renewal and Education is an organization formed by self-described former “welfare cheat” Star Parker that advocates personal responsibility and free-market economics as solutions to poverty instead of state assistance and programs for low-income people. It is based in Los Angeles, California and places a special focus on promoting “personal ownership” in the black community. Parker has appeared on a variety of religious right programs, including the 700 Club, to promote her views and work.
