October 1, 2003, a volunteer-run artist workshop opened in Lake Worth, Florida, to make large puppets, stilts, bicycles, banners, drums, props, costumes and to practice radical cheerleading and participatory theater. The Lake Worth Global Justice Group (LWGJG) is reclaiming a forgotten form of people’s theater to raise awareness about global and local issues through art-making, protest, and public performance. This art and organizing space, The Free Carnival Area of the Americas, will provide a venue for local, national, and international volunteers who want to learn and create alternatives to corporate globalization.
