Targeting young voters

Analysis

This short article tells readers that State Rep candidate Tim Doyle has a My Space account. It says “Tim Doyle is offering his views on business development and public education,” but never tells readers what those views are. The article then makes numerous claims, but does not support the claims with data or a source, such as – “He’s trying to reach young voters – even if it’s a demographic that doesn’t vote all that much.” The article does mention that he is running against Democrat Robert Dean, but doesn’t mention the other candidate for this race, nor their websites.

Article Text

He’s not musing about his favorite hip-hop group or posting soul-baring poetry. But Tim Doyle is offering his views on business development and public education on his Myspace.com Web site. The Republican candidate to succeed state Rep. Jerry Kooiman, R-Grand Rapids, took the unusual move of setting up a Web page on the popular hang-out for the under 25 set. He’s trying to reach young voters – even if it’s a demographic that doesn’t vote all that much – in his race against Democrat Robert Dean, a minister and former Grand Rapids city commissioner. So far, the site has drawn about 300 visitors. See for yourself at Myspace.com/timdoyle2006.
