Talk about a reluctant hero. Former Grand Rapids Township Trustee Susan Lovell was out of the race for the County Commission nearly as quickly as she was in, withdrawing the day after filing Tuesday. Lovell had intended to challenge incumbent Dean Agee in the Republican primary to raise awareness of the county’s program to preserve farmland. Earlier this month, she said she didn’t want to run but felt compelled because of some officials’ reticence to fund the program. Early Wednesday, she said she didn’t “have the stomach for what can be ugly county politics.”
